Located in the Pacific Northwest of Canada, the band is made up of members Jade Fadel and George Allen.
Their last album, the atmospheric black metal “Cascades” was released in summer of 2021. Selling out of first pressings of 150 limited edition vinyls at launch, the album was met with celebrated praise and universal high reviews.
“I really loved this record. I listened to it a lot… very atmospheric, very moody”.
- Panopticon's Austin Lunn, 2021 Music Highlights
“... this is a different kind of drama, a portrait that’s both haunting and horrifying. Shimmering synths and shining strings create a feeling of ghostly mystery. Raw, roiling riffs, throat-shredding roars and screams, and deep, excavating bass frenzies become a flood of derangement.”

“It is exhilarating. It has peaks and valleys, allowing you to bathe for a time in its moods. Ulvik are meticulous craftspeople, tinkering with multimedia art as well as music, and Cascades is clearly a record that was painstakingly assembled and carefully honed without sounding like it is either. While I’m sure Ulvik gets a lot of “FFO: WitTR,” this is for my ears a more seamless blend of metal and ambience.”

ULVIK IS FOR FANS OF: Swans, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Amenra, Jozef Van Wissem, Wovenhand, MGLA, Wolves In The Throne Room, Kriegsmachine.
In early 2023, Ulvik completed writing and recording their follow up album “Yesterday & Years Ago”. Having explored their affinity for atmospheric black metal with “Cascades”, “Yesterday & Years Ago” developed its own path, delving into their shared early influences of emotionally provoking, vulnerable and stark landscape releases from Swans, Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Portishead, Jozef Van Wissem and Sigur Ros. In turn, remaining committed to their signature catchy, headbang-inducing pinnacles.
In contrast and offset, the album flows into delicate folk pieces written on acoustic guitar, bouzouki, banjo, organ and violin, harnessing their love of dark folk styled instrumentation.
